“Practical Ideas for Missionary Parishes” – #3 Parish Visiting

In some cases, welcoming people to our parish means taking the welcome out to the parish!

A parishioner and leader of a local evangelisation team here in the Birmingham Archdiocese, Peter Dimambro, has kindly outlined what they do and sent documentation which they use for their house to house visiting. I have attached these in a template style so that they can be used by your parish too, if you want to begin a parish visiting team.

Peter writes:

I think the way we approach parish evangelisation in parish home to home visiting may be useful and will encourage other parishes to set up visiting teams.

The invitation letters/notices that we deliver before visiting are attached:

1) The initial notice to all homes in a street and where visiting is planned for the near future [Pre visit note]. Pre visit note 2017

2) The follow-up letter to non churchgoers known by parish visiting team [Pre visit letter non-churchgoer]. Pre visit letter, non c goers
3) Letter advising of a visit to families of children baptised in earlier years in the parish, obtained from parish baptism records. [Visit notification]. Visit notification 2017
Parish welcome is very broad although we do have a welcoming group at our church.
There are a number of letters we use depending on the situation so I would recommend that any parish wishing to set up a Welcoming Group which involves parish visiting to contact me and I will explain what we are doing.
